My very sly, demanding and very entertaining granddaughter Maya is now a year old.
To all one year old boys out there, I give fair warning.
(Hint--learn how to say "Malyenkaya Jambalaya Maya." It makes her smile)

(54,330 posts)We don't have any--yet!
Interestingly, my wife's father, who was gravely wounded and left a cripple at age 18 by a Soviet artillery shell in World War II, fervently hoped all his grandchildren would be girls, so that they would never be subject to compulsory military service--a wish fate was to grant him.
Have lots of fun watching her grow up.

Happy Birthday, little one. May you grow up to be as good and as smart as your grandpa.

(54,330 posts)If she is half as smart as her mama, she'll be twirling the world around her right pinkie in no time.

(58,785 posts)they've both had girls chasing them for years. It's very cute. Two years ago the girls in one's subdivision suddenly turned into sophisticated bathing beauties on the pool-side lounges while the boys played in the water. Last year the boys struggled with insults as repartee with the circling girls, forced to try to play hopelessly over their heads. This year hormones have kicked into gear, but presumably on both sides. What else could account for the girls' flattering patience with these frequently painfully awkward clunks?
She's a sweetie. Years of fun ahead for you.

(58,785 posts)Your daughters are lovely, and of course your newest joy.
One of ours is with us this weekend. A delight, but we're mostly between babies and snuggling soft little bodies and kissing fuzzy little heads. This one, a big, stocky descendant of Danish Vikings, used to run and leap into my arms every time he saw me, not so long ago. Now we're developing opposite directions. Yesterday he hauled his ampa's kayak up some rapids for him.

(9,819 posts)then get into school and their food values fall victim to peer pressure. I am fortunate to have nieces and nephews who are in 4th-5th grade that still love almost all fruits & vegs. Then there is the 12 yr. old who only eats meat+bread+desserts.

(17,098 posts)that little baby?" Her mom's from Sofia, so she's growing up at least bilingual. The baby's named after Mom's home town.
Cherish every moment- Grandma and grandpa are very important to the little ones.
She looks like she's already in charge. Girls definitely know how.

(54,330 posts)Already she crawls up to the living room sound system, turns the thing on by herself, pulls herself upright and starts dancing to the music. "In my day," babies used to be nothing but babies, not one year old disco bunnies!

Her mom was quite a handful, too. But in the end, it was worth the effort!
