He died a year ago and left tons of documents for me to dispose of. They're mainly old tax returns, stock reports, paperwork for various loans, etc. Should I pay to have them shredded or could I just leave them out for the trash pickup?

(512 posts)Stolen identity criminals sometimes use deceased person's social security numbers. May save you a huge headache.

(507 posts)and for what you'd pay for shred, do you have time to buy good paper shredder and do yourself? Even with your Father being deceased, the possibilities are too great to leave anything in trash. Me, if you didn't want to shred, maybe burn?

(463 posts)Yes, shred. Criminals use whatever they find, and the more interconnected the info, the more it convinces others of sincerity.

(22,685 posts)Bot my wife and daughter can shred a small amount of documents at a time at their respective workplaces. So it may take a while, but it'll get done.

(6,280 posts).... " cheap paper shredder." They are everywhere for around $10.99 to $25. Might come in handy for later use also. No middle person, and no toting paperwork around.
