Just had my first watermelon of the season, very sweet, good price, from Lidl, and for me, Memorial Day food has lived up to my best expectations.
Also had friend chicken and corn on the cob, but it was the watermelon that really got my tongue happy happy!
What did everybody eat today that was good?

(21,946 posts)I had gained 5 pounds. The next day the weight was gone. Glory be to the teenage years.
Love watermelon, in the spring I can actually smell it in the air.

(2,218 posts)I like to get a watermelon, cantaloupe and honeydew melon and cut them into chunks and mix them together and then put poppy seed dressing on them. The combination is just so tasty!

(17,984 posts)I grew up putting salt on my watermelon. I wonder if that's a regional thing. Or maybe my family was just weird.

(2,218 posts)make it sweeter. I grew up in the Midwest, Southern Illinois, and my dad taught me to eat it that way.
Unfortunately, salt doesn't really like me any more so I haven't done that in several years.

(10,885 posts)We easily go through a whole watermelon every week, and God forbid we run out of it. Our cravings have driven us to the grocery at some very weird times to replenish.

(2,218 posts)I mean I HAD to have watermelon. I convinced my roommate to pick one up and the minute she put it on the counter I was attacking it with a knife, slicing it open. It was a vicious attack on my part, but I am not sorry at all.

(25,849 posts)because in recent years the ones I get aren't very sweet at all and have a funky flavor. They are nothing like the watermelon of my youth, or even a dozen years ago.
Sigh.
