Calvin? Calvin, sweetheart?
In the darkness Calvin heard the sound of Susie, his wife of fifty-three years. Calvin struggled to open his eyes. God, he was so tired and it took so much strength. Slowly, light replaced the darkness, and soon vision followed. At the foot of his bed stood his wife. Calvin wet his dry lips and spoke hoarsely, Did
did you
. find him?
Yes dear, Susie said smiling sadly, He was in the attic.
Susie reached into her big purse and brought out a soft, old, orange tiger doll. Calvin could not help but laugh. It had been so long. Too long.

(149,560 posts)It is perfect, absolutely perfect.
And maybe it hit me a bit harder than it normally would have, but my husband is in the hospital right now. Nothing fatal or life-threatening...but he's not home tonight.
Thank you for bringing this wonderful story to all of us.

(1,395 posts)I sent this to my sons, who have every Calvin and Hobbes collection ever printed. My older son painted Calvin and Hobbes on his baby son's wall. My younger son gave his baby daughter a stuffed tiger named Hobbes who is still her "spirit toy". Our family adored Calvin and Hobbes.

I still have every book he released.

(23,965 posts)....C&H fans. We have every paperback, and the hardcover boxed set. The latter is in the possession of my older son.
Volume 2 of the boxed set got lost. My sons current girlfriend somehow managed to find a replacement copy and gave it to him for his 28th birthday. They had only been together 3 months at that time. She lives in Phoenix, and flew up to the greater Chicago area to surprise him. It was a major hint that this was a serious relationship. 3 months later, he moved to Phoenix and they are going strong.
Ill send this to him someday, but probably not just now - too poignant.
