Anyone here every buy prescription eyeglasses online?

I broke my glasses a couple of weeks ago and I want to replace them.

I called and got the prescription from my eye doctor.

I just don't know about any of the web sites that sell them... so I'm looking for recommendations.

My original one did not list the distance between my pupils so I had to get the lady at the desk to check for me.

Since then I have been buying glasses online for a few years now. I tend to go cheap since I break mine constantly...

Great for basic lenses. Transitions (tm) lenses are a huge adder. I bought a couple of pairs with my reading prescription only so I don't need to deal with progressive lenses when reading books or papers.

Zenni is less expensive.

Only caution is if you have a high refractive error where the lenses tend to be much thicker than most people. In that case, I'd be careful going on-line. Prior to having cataract surgery, I had a high refractive error and found it difficult to get a fitted well at the "cheaper" local Opticians. I finally started going to Optometrists and Opticians who specialize in higher refractive error. I won't tell you what I had to pay, but at least I could see.

But, after cataract surgery, I don't need much correction. Have bought several pair on-line and they are perfect.

Check the guarantee if you are still concerned. Good luck.

MANY eye doctors who are affiliated with glasses sales in one way or another do NOT automatically give you your inter-pupillary distance (PD). Some do not measure it, but leave that up to the glasses fitting technician.

You will need your PD to get glasses online.

There are a variety of ways to measure it yourself, but some states have enacted laws requiring the scrip and the IP distance to be given to patients on demand - if the doctor measures it (or is asked to).

Only three states require the PD to be measured as part of the exam:

You might ask if each company sells replacement parts for the frames you're interested in. Coastal didn't, and my frames broke shortly after I bought them. Won't buy from them again.

I picked Coastal because they let you choose the size first, then examine styles -- clearly the better way to do it. But I didn't even think to ask if they sold temples separately, because I had never heard of anyone not doing so.

Both have been OK, I think my last few pairs have been with Eyebuy. Don't remember why I switched. Maybe I preferred their frame selection.

Luckily I'm in California and my script includes everything needed. I get other measurements from my older pairs (like temple length). I think the bridge size, as well as vertical and horizontal dimensions of lenses and frame width are specific to various frames.

Currently my lenses are acrylic instead of polycarbonate. Polycarb is more resistant to shattering but acrylic is more resistant to scratching.

I did not realize until my 2nd new pair with Coastal that I could haggle them down in price, which I did, rather politely.
both are well priced, and both offer first time buyers excellent introductory offers. I use one pair of clear distance glasses and one pair of distance sunglasses, have saved 100's of bucks, as has Mr. Dixie. He uses Zenni.

FWIW, I always order on the phone, to talk to one of their sales staff, while Mr. Dixie prefers to order online.

My glasses broke two weeks ago and I’m suffering through an old pair. My wife and both met with an optometrist last week and ordered new pairs at Costco’s Optical Dept. We feel like we save so much there that it pays for our annual membership.
