It happens every so often, somebody locking their car with the key does it with the horn blowing as you happen to be walking by, right in your ear.
My key only blows the horn if I press the button twice, such that it's a premeditated effort, not just random.
So this geezer (I are a geezer, too) plainly saw me about to pass in front of his vehicle while he was already off of it, had made eye contact, and then pressed his danged button just as I was in front of the thing.
Later, exiting the store I thought about leaving a note on the windshield, but had no paper. Arrrgh!1 The *next* culprit will reap it!1

(31,911 posts)make a chirp or a much quieter noise? Why does it have to blare the cars horn at a zillion decibels?
I hear you, UTUSN. Cant count how many times I have had the same experience.
BTW, my older Corolla makes no noise at all when I lock it with the key fob, but the parking lights blink once. I like that so much better.

(43,049 posts)I forget if I locked it when halfway across the parking lot, and positive feedback is kinda nice.
It's also a handy way to find it on the way back.

(823 posts)Keep in mind it might be an aftermarket alarm that honks. Seems an overreaction on your part unless you had a run in prior.

(823 posts)My wife had one installed that also has a remote start. And the overreacting comment was aimed at your suspicion that it was intentional and meant to scare you or piss you off. But as I said, there may have been some reason you suspected it was malicious.
