I actually have that same 136 IQ that the guy was bragging about, and I'm not very smart. It's sort of funny to think that he thinks that's genius or something. I'm not humble-bragging... I have some Really Smart friends, and they're way smarter than I am. There's a real difference that I notice. I'm really good at one thing, really smart in one way, but there are huge aspects of knowledge I am hopeless at (math beyond high school, anything requiring memorization, music, languages... alas, the list of things I'm not good at is long, and the "good" list is short.) In contrast, one of my really smart friends majored in math, went to medical school while in a MD/PhD, won science awards, sings in a national choir, and writes good novels. On the side. (Oh, and she speaks 4 languages.)
She is not at all conceited, but just being around her makes me feel pretty dumb. She thinks she might try law school next.

I have to wonder whom this guy above hangs out with if he thinks he's the smartest person around.

(And I sense that his "EQ"-- emotional intelligence-- is somewhere below average.)

I frequently have to dumb it down to communicate with the vacuous hordes.

So about 6 years ago I was teaching at the community college, just enjoying myself and my students. There was a new hire, a dude with a PhD. He was habitually in a foul mood, and he blamed it on having a PhD. Nobody valued his education! He had to fight to be recognized! I swear I could only listen to his garbage for two minutes before I was ready to tell him to just leave. He didn't last long anyway. A few months ago, I brought him up with some colleagues who had been around the school at least as long as I had. Even though I had forgotten his name, they knew exactly who I was talking about by my description. "That was Steve so and so," they said, quick as you like. I thought it was pretty funny that everyone had the same opinion of him I had.
