I've been accepted to The University of YouTube!1

We might start with the comment that the bar is quite low. Or we might not, since in this winter of my allotted span - *after* the approved venues of school, military, employment are exhausted as sources of improvement and development - I am learning more through the auspices of The University of YouTube than I ever did via those other places.

HooKAY!1 That said, no need to convince anybody or to attempt to describe the width and breadth of the curriculum - everything from the scholarly to the profane to the DoItYourself since Lounge is replete with KnowAllMore.

And - despite that I just finished a Tube about "Rituals" and Don Quixote (wow, besides book, Richard STRAUSS, ballet, GILLIAM, how to use an inhaler), and *MUCH* more), I will focus on Entertainment:

*******Wow, all the pop culture I was/am/have been oblivious to my entire ancient life!1 Here's this: I had had a dim idea of What's My Line as a venue for somewhat snooty panelists in days of Olde, yet have been spending quite a few hours developing a taste for the Celebrity segments, but then also changing my judgment about the panelists. Did you know that Arlene FRANCIS (whom I judged as snobbish WASP) was of Armenian derivation (yes, KARDASHIANs), that the little diamond heart pendant she always wore (gift from hubby Martin GABEL) ended when a mugger ripped it from her neck as she was getting into a taxi, OR that she, a lifelong New Yorker, ended up in a nursing home with Alzheimer's in San Francisco? Or, that Dorothy KILGALLEN was hot on the track as a reporter of the JFK conspiracy when she might have been murdered?!1 *OR* that the moderator John Charles DALY was one of the first reporters of Pearl Harbor and the death of FDR *AND* that his second wife was the daughter of our Liberal hero Chief Justice Earl WARREN?

The trove of Dick CAVETT interviews are entrancing, how he seems to just lay back and get the guest to have a safe space, and also when the guest is a bit smart, Dick comes back with a soft and sharp comeback. Not to mention how Orson WELLS is all over everywhere. Although he seems to have discarded a daughter here or there.

Well, any recruits/alumni?!1

Yes, I knew all of those things about What's My Line because we started watching an episode a night sometime in 2017. The civility and wit are wonderful antidotes to daily news and culture under this regime. I grew to love them all more and more. I believe the regular panelists were all Democrats, especially Arlene, who wrote a biography and talked about the anti-Semitism she had witnessed during her marriage. I had never known about Fred Allen, and ended up reading his books. The treatment of any "pretty girl" as an object still bothers me, but it seems to be toning down bit by bit. We're in 1960 now and just watched Myrna Loy last night.

In 1991, the Myrna Loy Center for the Performing and Media Arts
opened in downtown Helena, MT, not far from Loy's childhood home.
Located in the historic Lewis and Clark Country Jail, it sponsors live
performances and alternative films for underserved audiences.
