He died August 19, 1977.
Someone once told him he was public nuisance. He said I didn't know that, how much does it pay?
The world could use him these days.
RIP.

(15,751 posts)of children - double digit number that I don't remember.
Anyway, this was 50's TV. Groucho said '' I can't believe how many children you've had! I love my cigar, but I take it out of my
mouth sometimes.' [WOW].

(15,751 posts)Well, technical cover story for Groucho.
I remember Groucho made the cigar remark to a semi-embarrassed housewife who looked like she had a lot of children. - 'You Bet Your Life'

(36,416 posts)The nickel today is not what it was fifteen years ago. Do you know what this country needs today?...A seven-cent nickel. Yessiree, we've been using the five-cent nickel in this country since 1492. Now that's pretty near a hundred years' daylight saving. Now, why not give the seven-cent nickel a chance? If that works out, next year we could have an eight-cent nickel. Think what that would mean. You could go to a newsstand, buy a three-cent newspaper and get the same nickel back again. One nickel carefully used would last a family a lifetime! - Captain Spaulding, Animal Crackers

(62,406 posts)A tense day in a surgical waiting room. There was a TV there. I turned it on to the local college's station. They played the very old shows, including an hour of "You Bet Your Life" with Groucho. Just happened to catch the start of that hour.
Within 5 minutes we were rolling. The show lightened our mood. The surgery was successful. Grouch has us in stitches also.

(12,421 posts)On his customs form, where it said "occupation", he wrote "smuggler". Where it said "Do you have anything to declare?", he wrote "Wouldn't you like to know!". He got away with stuff others couldn't.
