"Mom, what's 'juke box money'?

Second in a my series of things my 19 year old granddaughter has never heard of (but her mom and I have). You'll fondly remember my first one "Mom, what's a phone booth?"

I may be wrong. Are juke boxes retro-cool now?

Do kids know songs by the B52s? ("Mom, what's a B-52?&quot ?

I guess the idea of subjecting everyone to your music selection seems oddly tyrannical to kids CTyankee Sep 2019 #8

when he was around five; “Love Shack” and “Rock Lobster” would get him jumping around all excited. He’s eleven now and he still likes them, but his own musical tastes are somewhat different these days (something called Marshmallow? Fuck if I know.)

I’m old enough to remember most of the stuff in the book but there was one thing that I’d never heard of and had a hard time believing; that kids used to get tar or asphalt or something from road workers or roofers. I can’t remember now if it was one of the other or maybe both. But the kids would chew it like gum which not everyone could afford.

I asked a friend of mine who is a few years older and grew up in the city about it and he had fond memories of doing so.

It was a thing back in the 50's, sorry to say. Kids just scraped it off freshly filled cracks in the asphalt.

Sadly, the diner has closed.

who are used to walking around plugged in to their musical selection. It's a good thing in a way but I wouldn't want to be that disconnected to my "now."

rock'n'roll AND classical; the little ones do have their own favorites, not MY favorites, but I do have to be educated!

I was looking for missing photos awhile ago. I was texting my daughter and I had asked her if she possibly knew where these particular photos were, or if she could find any negatives for them. Her reply was "What's a negative?"

Luckily, I found the photos that I was looking for a few weeks ago.

And later in bars. I think they were around up until the mid 90s in some bars (from what I remember of college.) Go into the bar to play pool. Buy some pitchers. Plug the juke box.

Now that you mention it, there are a few places around me that might still have one, so I'm going to keep an eye out.
