At best Flash was a big hairball of proprietary code and Digital Rights Management schemes that was difficult to secure and maintain.

Curiously, China demanded it's own version of Flash so Adobe partnered with a Chinese corporation to adapt it to the Chinese version of internet censorship and government supervision. Other versions of Flash are disabled in China.

Occasionally I run into Flash animations on old, archived science sites.
