Question about external DVD drives.

This might be a dumb question but will an external DVD drive work on a computer that already has a built-in DVD drive. My DVD drive is being really dodgy and I don't want to use it anymore. I took my computer in a couple weeks ago to have some repairs done, including to the drive, but now the drive is acting up again. I'm going to just have to get a new computer soon but I want to get as much use out of the one I have now. I'm thinking about picking up an external drive from Staples.

Yep - just be sure you have a couple USB ports available. Lot of DVD players use two. n/t CincyDem Sep 2019 #2

breaking the internal drive. it is so flimsy one has to use two hands to make the cd disc stay in the tray when it ejects or takes in the disk

It has served me well for almost nine years. Just had some repairs done on it but the dvd drive is still acting up and it seems like it screws up other stuff when it isn't working properly, so I'm not bothering with it anymore.
