Clinical annoyance: Patients keeping their appointments with me in order to tell me that

they were dropped by their specialty care provider for missing appointments.

It's hard to know how to respond to that.

Especially when they were referred out because I couldn't do any more for them at the primary care level.

Was there any particular reason these patients were missing appointments? Had they called in advance to cancel or just didn't show up?

I make every attempt to be able to keep appointments. However, I am often dependent on others to provide my transportation and they can be running behind schedule themselves. I always call the provider if it looks like I am going to be late so if I need to reschedule I can do so at that time.

Whatever happened to common courtesy?
