(23,295 posts)Theres a photo of candidate Obama from his visit Missoula! I recognized it before I even scrolled down...he was doing chin ups outside the Griz locker room and you can just see the RIZ of GRIZ in the pic. His visit here was such a sweet memory for me. My son was almost 3 and he made his own little sign to take to the rally...I still have it. I went and got in line at 5am so that I would be assured of getting a seat for me my little one. As the line started to move around 10am, my husband did a drive by and handed my kiddo to me through the window of his truck and little Owen and I went in and cheered our guts out. It was just the best day.

(5,631 posts)In 2006 finally got the f outta there.
Moved my family to Missoula.
We both worked in construction tho. So in 2008 housing crash we couldnt afford Bushies gas any more.
(Helped elect Tester when in MT).
My husband wanted to move back -ex that is - I told him I would not go back to our hometown so we moved to Springfield Missouri! Springfield is the town that I relocated to Washington from after divorcing my husband of 25 years (conservative asshole).
Now I reside in western Washington ...no longer a wannabe! I made it!
Im doing great and love it here.

(25,812 posts)Here's the most interesting thing the photographer said: I really do believe that the office reveals who you are. I don't think it changes you.

(15,532 posts)My stars, they were just two very real, down to earth people. This country was better off for having had them in the White House for eight years. I am so glad I lived to see those days. I will never forget sitting in my living room watching that inauguration and being so choked up. It was history being made.

(63,221 posts)I miss them all so much. I would give anything to have them back. What a contrast from the charming, warm, down-to-earth, intelligent Obamas to the shit-show of a family we currently have in the White House. They could not be more opposite from each other.

(54,276 posts)Being president doesn't change you. It just reveals who you really are.
I first met Obama in 2006, before he even announced he was running. He seemed a guy who was very comfortable in his skin. I met him several times after that, the longest being an hour in July 2012 before the re-election campaign began in earnest. He had a hundred things on his mind, and was completely up to date on every one of them--the budget deficit, health care costs, electoral fraud, Syria (7 years ago!), the Egyptian economy and why it mattered, and a lot of etc. He had obviously prepared, too, because he greeted me by name the second he walked in the room.

Those were other times for sure.

(54,276 posts)It was during the re-election campaign, and Republicans were hoping against hope to find something--ANYTHING--they could use against him to sabotage his re-election. It didn't work, as we all know. One of his top campaign managers said that "come Labor Day, I will be biting my nails so you don't have to." The guy (David Simas) knew what he was talking about, too. Around Labor Day, Romney's polling numbers pulled close to within striking distance before Obama's numbers left the election a foregone conclusion by Election Day.
Anyway, here's my post from a month or so later, when the White House finally sent me the photos. I had brought a camera, but wasn't allowed to bring it to the meeting. No camera, no cell phone. When they say "off the record," they mean it.
