(16,373 posts)It was especially designed to be a nursery for moms and pups. We backed up to a lake, so there were zillions mosquitoes and we were hoping the bats would move in and help control the pests. Unfortunately, they never moved in and we were disappointed. I drove by the old place the other day and the bat house it's still there. I hope the new homeowners are having better luck.

(1,639 posts)And not one of the ones with the really freaky faces.
I know that I am being prejudiced, but the species that have faces that are a cross between a snake and an evil flower really are hard to love, even though they all fulfill a critical ecological function.
The little guy in the video is what some people have dubbed a "sky puppy", just as otters sort of look like "sea puppies."
Years ago, I found a tiny bat asleep on my inner window sill. He had tucked himself in under the air conditioner. When we pulled the unit in from the window during the day, he didn't so much as flinch--he was that deeply asleep, I guess.
We left the outer window--what some people call a storm window--open so that he could make his escape that night. I had to grasp his tiny little claw and push it back before I could close the inner window. It felt sort of cool to touch a relatively exotic animal like that.
