4. David Bowie and Jackson Browne both met Stevie at the Montreaux Jazz Festival

Both were blown away. Jackson offered his studio for free and that's where Texas Flood was recorded. While they were recording, Bowie called and offered him the "Let's Dance" gig.

SRV's management overplayed their hand with demands.
Earl Slick was available and he and Bowie had been pals for years.
Earl learned the new songs on the plane to Europe!
Stevie was pretty upset with his manager over the turn of events.
