I wouldn't plan a trip there from across the country, but if you are in or passing through the area, it's a good visit.👍

I have always liked looking at interesting out of the way places like that. The last few years, I've used the Atlas obscura website and gone to a lot of interesting little unknown places that I found there. Way better than a lot of the big tourist traps.

Road trip from Chicago to Arkansas to see Toltec mounds, then back north through Cahokia. Wonderful museum, important work. Mounds are all over, from Georgia to Wisconsin, but a lot are not preserved.

site of significance that should be explored. Many mounds were good soil so removed and used by those that came to the area

One of the greatest cities of the world, Cahokia was larger than London was in AD 1250. The Mississippians who lived here were accomplished builders who erected a wide variety of structures from practical homes for everyday living to monumental public works that have maintained their grandeur for centuries
