SUPER FOOD - Dark Chocolate - I'm throwing my pills away

Daily consumption of dark chocolate can reduce LDL (“bad cholesterol”) levels. Chocolate can help reduce the risk of heart disease by as much as 30 percent, and the risk of dying from a stroke by nearly 50 percent. Studies even show that eating chocolate at least once per week can improve cognitive functioning.

Recent research from University College London studied over 13,000 people and found that individuals who reported eating any dark chocolate in two 24-hour periods were 70 percent less likely to report clinically-relevant depressive symptoms than those who ate no chocolate at all.

Or in non-research-speak, eating dark chocolate can make you feel happier.

(My wife always feels better after her chocolate fix)

I read that it's better if you eat the lower sugar versions but that's not as tasty. I also read that just smellng chocolate has as much effect on mood as eating it. Amazing stuff.

8. plus it releases endorphins and that helps blood pressure as well as general mood

Doctors couldn't solve my BP trouble after every possible test for cause. Then I found a medical study showing that patients with paroxysmal hypertension spikes were successfully treated with beta endorphins. I tested the hypothesis for myself, and it has made a big difference.

Where do we get endorphins? Dark chocolate. Music. Laughter. Beauty. Sex.

There's no down side.

Do we just get a small chunk of dark chocolate or do we get.two special dark candy bars twice a week?

I hope it is the later.

12. Article says we only need 1/2 ounce a day (75 calories worth) and should be sweet enough to enjoy

and an extra 15 minute walk is enough to offset the calories.

My problem is severe lack of willpower to limit the quantity, so instead of buying bars I normally get my quota of dark chocolate from a favorite bistro where I get a gooey fresh baked dark chocolate chip cookie and coffee once a week.

18. The Ghirardelli bars break into 8 squares at .4oz

So naturally you'd need two to be on the safe side. For the 92% Cacao that's 60 calories per square.
