At what age did you realize...you had more in common with those older than you vs younger?

Seriously? I guess I am slowly coming to realize this, kind of a slow waking up.

Maybe cuz my kids are finally entering final teen years. So when talking to other younger parents I feel myself thinking "I am SO glad I am done with THAT phase!" (Meaning the kids and my life as a single mom in my 30s )

Maybe because the technology gap has finally smacked me in the face and I feel like a doddering old fool sometimes not understanding new apps or features, or even the slang used for them. I tease my teens by purposefully calling it "Snappy-chats" and "Insta-Grammies"

Maybe because I realize that the people I have in my closest inner circle are either my age or older...we like the same music and politics and get the jokes we make about our generations.

I guess all this "millennial vs ok, Boomer" shit has been kind of funny to me to watch...then again I am Gen X and my teens are Gen Z

Thoughts?

I definitely had some inkling of that in my teens too

I'm turning 50 in January, and most of my friends are definitely my own age. I also do tend to be the "cool mom" of my teens' friend group, they actually *gasp* enjoy going to lunch and road trips with me

I even LIKE *gasp* my daughter's playlist!

It's just an interesting place to be in life I guess. Middle age is definitely a "bridge" of sorts. You kids growing up, parents aging and leaving the planet... I'm seeing my place on the year-wheel very differently these days...

ok, kinda the same...when I realized the cute guy at the store was old enough to be my kid...and he called me "ma'am" damn!

I actually kinda "like" guys that are a little younger than me, but I draw the line at 13 years
why? cuz that's a whole babysitter age thing that could border on weird, lmao

yeah...mf45 doesn't care about that stuff, he just grabs and does what he wants ...ew

Some old folks have amazing wisdom, and so do some 6 year olds. Then again, you can find complete idiots at all ages. That's whyt we have the Darwin Awards. Just watch this idiot cyclist who clearly deserves a Darwin Award of his own.

And what really hammers it home is I no longer get in the pit at death metal shows. I either go all the way up front to get good pics or hang back and watch the kids slam into each other.

My science/math teacher held up a geodetic survey map and I immediately could correctly identify it - my dad and granddad were mining engineers and I'd seen those maps all my life. A month or so later that teacher explained to the class that my grades shifted the curve for the class so everyone else got lower grades than they would have if I had not been in the class.

After that, I was ostracized by the rest of the kids and found conversations with older kids or adults much more interesting. Of course, part of the problem was having a certified genius as an oldest sister and a really, really smart older sister, both of whom shared their lessons and reading lists with me.

Now I am happy to find people my age or younger that I can have meaningful conversations with. Too bad it took 55 years to get there!

When I went into the Army I hated it. It was like high school all over again.

My ex-wife is 9 years older than me to give a sense of who I preferred to be around.
