I am so achy today. I can tell there is something moving in w/o even checking the forecast. Yeezus!

(102,225 posts)and I try to avoid simple carbs in the diet (pro-inflammatory). Usually, that works.
But, this morning getting my pup ready for our 3 mile walk, I could barely stand on it. So, yeah... barometric pressure and humidity--storms on the way.
Price we pay to live in beautiful Colorado, I guess, Laffy Kat.

(22,250 posts)barometric jumps and drops just wreck me.
My large muscles just throb
The only thing that really helps is heat.
PS I live in Texas. Glad I am not in a cold climate.

(22,250 posts)I am convinced my mom and my dad's mother both had Fibromyalgia. Of course Granny called it "rheumatism"
My mom was cold sensitive, bright light sensitive, and had severe muscle pain attacks when the barometer went crazy.
I'm 71. My granny lived to be 102. I hope I got all of her genes

(15,800 posts)Once the barometer settles down the cold isn't as bothersome. But the transitional days between seasons are just plain mean. It's been achy for about a month, but this last week I've felt like I've been beaten, ain't no part that doesn't hurt. Wasn't so bad back in my 60s.
For now, I'm grumpy in Greeley. Ow.

(16,377 posts)And I totally understand. Are you able to stay inside and warm? Can you take anything? FWIW, the Tramadol really, really helps me and it's not an opiate. Also, are you telling me that the achiness gets worse the older you get? If so, that blows.
yellowdogintexas
(22,250 posts)they make a huge difference. That direct heat really helps.
Of course if you have access to a hot tub, even better.
I wrap up in the blanket, which is a cat magnet so I get double benefits.
Sip tea, read or crochet and warm up

(15,800 posts)Still have to get out and about, inconvenient but it does help to keep things toward the limber side. Tramadol does help, but I limit it to nights as it tends to make me nod off. Some of the aches got worse, cumulative things. Others are new and bringing their own challenges. Can't say that the achiness has necessarily worsened with age, but it's certain that my willingness to bitch about it has!

That's what an arrogant doctor told me back when I was 50 and started having stuff happen and I asked, "Doc, I never used to have stuff, what's going on?!1" And he said, with my chart in front of him, "How old are you?" My chart with my birth date was in front of him, so he was being an arrogant PRICK. And I said, "50." And he said, "This is what 50 is LIKE!1"
So after another arrogant episode from him, I realized that he was not a DoctorGOD, and I got a complete copy of my records and looked for another doctor, without any confrontation. And I told this story to old veterans, one of whom said, "Wait till you're SEVENTY!1" And I told it to an intelligent aunt in her 90s, and she said, "Sweetie, he was very rude to you but he TOLD YOU THE TRUTH!1"
******That said, I feel for your winter aches, which I could never sustain, but I also brace for the *SUMMER*!1 When it gets to be April, I start bracing to survive the HEAT, all the way to late September, only going outside to keep the bushes alive with water before 9 A.M. or cutting the grass after 7 P.M. and otherwise going out the door during the day just to get into the car.
So, bracing for the seasons, but also bracing for the danged HOLIDAYS!1

(16,377 posts)For some reason heat has never really bothered me. It does get downright hot in CO, although it is dry and the hot spells don't last that long. In the spring and early summer we can go weeks w/o having to turn on heat or air, just open the windows. My ex was bothered by the heat as was my mother. I know it can be rough. I'd probably do well in AZ (Flagstaff area) but I like the political climate here much better.

(70,683 posts)And the heat I'm talking about is, when you open the barrier door, the heat KNOCKS YOU DOWN. And I envy your better political situation!1
