(38,526 posts)And I think Steve Howe is, hands-down, the best rock guitarist EVER. His kick-a$$ steel slide on the song "Going for the One" demonstrates not only technique but musical voice (he makes that thing talk).
(It's not the solo in the middle, it's the stuff that he works on AFTER the solo, building up to the end, starting at the 3:20 mark.)
I was actually in the front row of this very concert.

(15,292 posts)Chris Squire, Steve Howe, Rick Wakeman, Bill Bruford, and then Jon Anderson with one of the most special voices in rock history.
Saw them live around the time the seminal Yessongs live album was recorded.
They rivaled The Who as far as best live band ever, and for me, that's about the best compliment I could give.

(15,292 posts)They were fantastic. They wrote and performed such sublime and intimately powerful music. Tommy, Who's Next, Quadrophenia...
In a thousand years, you could give Quadrophenia to any 16 year old in the world and it would speak to them from start to finish.
Here's a good sample. For years, The Rolling Stones tried to hide this performance because The Who put them to shame.
But, I understand. It's not for everyone.
