5. Mamma may well be long gone.

Sometimes the mother will stay close or leave and come back but may also leave for good. If so, the ducklings should have been taken to an animal shelter as they will not likely survive unless they soon get access to a suitable body of water in the presence of their mother.

Ducks unfortunately sometimes nest in the most unlikely places - a long way to water or no way. When that happens, their prospects are not good....
