Ok, this is from the Onion and is supposed to be humorous, and it is, but it's also the story of my life because I have tried almost every single one of the things they mention in this article to try to get a good night's sleep, and nothing has quite done the trick yet. I have lately been thinking about a weighted blanket. Has anyone tried sleeping with one and if so, what was your opinion.
Anyway, here is the rest of the article. I completely related to every word of it.
CEDAR RAPIDS, IAExpressing relief that her new purchase would finally help her get a more restful nights sleep, area woman Wanda Armonson confirmed Friday that her weighted blanket was sure to succeed where CBD, a salt lamp, an oil diffuser, an acupressure mat, bath bombs, and a white noise machine had previously failed.
It really didnt work out with the valerian root, blue light filter, cooling gel eye mask, knee pillows, scented candles, or humidifier, so Im looking forward to this weighted blanket finally getting the job done, said Armonson, telling reporters that the new blanket would be a welcome change of pace from the largely ineffectual melatonin pills, lavender room spray, electric shoulder massager, Bluetooth dimming light bulbs, guava tea, and memory foam mattress she had tried previously.
I admit Ive been suckered in by some of these sleep trends before, which is why Im happy to finally move past the magnesium supplements, ocean wave projector, air purifier, dozens of meditation apps, and incense to something that actually works. Armonson also noted that if for some reason the weighted blanket didnt meet her expectations, she had heard great things about blackout curtains."

Never tried an extra heavy unit, though.

(18,402 posts)Seriously, I have periodic bouts (a night or two each month) of being unable to sleep, or waking after 20-30 minutes and having trouble getting back to sleep. That's when I toddle downstairs, pour a small nip, and return to bed to read. Usually after a few pages, I'm out again.
On the other hand, I may have found a new "cure." I recently had some eye surgery, and was quite uncomfortable for about 3 weeks (stitches pulling, swelling, etc.; no, it wasn't cosmetic surgery). I took two extra-strength Tylenol at bedtime, and I seemed to fall asleep quite well. I've abandoned that now, because I don't think it's a good idea to take pills every night. So I'm back to a little jigger of my favorite cognac.

(4,572 posts)It's hella heavy though, so on occasion when I do wake up in the middle of the night, I tend to just grab my quilt to cover myself when I go back to sleep.

(63,221 posts)I have always loved heavy covers when I was growing up (It was very cold in upstate NY). Made me feel very secure. Is the blanket hot?

(66,286 posts)Melatonin, diphenhydramine, THC, white noise, all of these help, but only the weighted blanket gets me to sleep faster, relieves anxiety, and offers higher quality rest.
My wife, who suffers from chronic hot flashes, calls it the 'death blanket' and kicks it off whenever a hot flash hits.
