The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI can't believe it. The Stones are still touring.
I was driving through downtown Minneapolis and sure enough, there was a sign advertising a Rolling Stones show at the new Vikings stadium in May. I saw Steel Wheels at the old stadium in 1989 and I thought the Stones were old then! I remember thinking that Jagger still had some pretty good moves for an old guy. In 1989. And Keith Richards is apparently still alive, or maybe he's undead.
Amazing.

I can remember the Stones causing riots and being banned from Vancouver. People said they were of the devil.
Now they are considered rock and roll cultural icons and parents are taking kids to see them. I took my kids when they were 8, 10, and 13. They were mesmerized and I was so proud to let them experience real rock and roll artists. Their moves weren't choreographed, their voices weren't enhanced, and they proved they could still perform as they have in small venues by walking down the ramp onto a tiny stage and blasting out raw rock. The only drawback was that the guys sitting behind us kept spilling their beer on us. They played for more than two hours.
As long as they can still rock the joint, I am still in and so are my now slightly older kids. My son can play a mean guitar thanks to the inspiration he got at 8.

(7,715 posts)If he did half the things the stories say, he wouldn't be around now. It's a nice image to be a bad boy (now old man), but seriously, he's now something like Bernie Sanders' (or Joe B's) age? He's taking remarkably good care of himself for such a "vintage" rock n' roller.
I like the Stones, and I love the Beatles. What is common about both bands is that their members were/are incredibly intelligent folks, Keith included!

(13,557 posts)show. I ended up seeing them on the Voodoo Lounge tour in the King Dome in '94. I figured that was really the last chance. Not even close. I'd consider going again. If they couldn't do it right, they would quit.
