Hey everyone,
I always post photos from my trips and I'll be doing another next week. Except I am not flying. I usually fly into Las Vegas but I am not risking it this time! I added a day to my trip to account for driving with a nice stop each way in Gallup NM. I haven't driven to the desert in 14 years.
There are no cons, I can use my travel funds for another trip and the pros are immense.
1. I am completely in control of my environment. I won't be in an airport here at home or Las Vegas (which is a gross, overcrowded airport anyway). Outside of checking into hotels three times I won't have much human contact , which drastically lowers my risk of catching this stupid virus.
2. No worries about my luggage being lost.
3. No stress of going through the TSA.
So off I go next week!

(67,394 posts)flooding issues. be prepared from the weather service:
"Again, specific will become clearer in another few days. Rainfall
totals of 0.5"-1" still look like a good bet for much of southern
Nevada and southeast California. Mohave County and the Colorado
River Valley look to be favored for higher amounts with 1.0"-1.5"
general rainfall totals for Tuesday-Thursday. This would produce
totals that are almost double the normal amounts for the month of
March and may break some daily rainfall records. See climate section
below. Most impactful snowfall accumulations will be confined to
elevations above 7500 feet due to the relatively warm subtropical
moisture."

(34,136 posts)The one time I visited Death Valley, it rained the night I arrived and was foggy and drizzling the day I had available to stay. By the time I arrived in San Francisco, the news was full of the desert bloom. My memory of it was driving up to the lookout point where it was so foggy the ravens were walking around on the ground.

Enjoy.

1. Have your car checked out - make sure no problems.
2. Ensure you have some water/liquids with you.
3. Make sure someone knows your travel plans - just in case.
It gets hot in the day and cold at night.
Enjoy the view and safe trip.
I'm taking a rental, and this is trip # 21 for me.
I have been to China Lake (petroglyph tour stuff) but never Ft. Irwin. Did you get a chance to explore?
