"Google it".

I ran a one-man field service engineering company for many years but never had a reason to get a "Google business listing". I never even had to interview for jobs, advertise or make sales calls. I retired after 2012 and closed the business down after almost 40 years.

For many years, I've gotten numerous calls per year on my home phone from people wanting me to update my Google business listing. I've told them several times each year that I am retired, my business is closed, that I never had a Google listing, I'm on the National Do-not-Call List and I want my number taken off their list. They say "OK, will do" but come back every year.

Today, they called again. I started telling the girl straight away I wanted Google's phone number to complain about these calls.

She said "Google it" and hung up......

Like most nuisance calls, call blocking does no good 'cause they just change their number.

There is absolutely no morality or ethics in business any more........

KY rant done.....

2. Are the callers numbers real and you know the business name?

I still fill out the FCC do not call complaints if the number is real and or i know the business name who called.

There are fines. Problem is with number spoofing it doesn’t do any good most of the time.

If we ever get back to a functioning government it’d be great to solve the number spoofing issue and the whole do not call fiasco.

I haven’t been able to find more details on what it would take really eliminate spoofing. I’d be willing to update my phone so only numbers with a valid certificate could contact me. All others could go to phone mail.

Is something like that viable?

3. I confess, even as an EE, I have not studied the technology.

I've just had too many irons in the fire lately to do it. All of the numbers on caller ID are fake, so that instantly makes the call bogus to me. As far as I know, there currently is not a way for consumers to determine the true source number....and that's what we need.

A few years back, one even called me with my own number as the fake number!

Until we gain the right to know the true call source number so we can issue functional complaints to the FTC or FCC, I don't see much we can do.

We definitely need a bill passed will teeth and stiff penalties that protects consumer's privacy rights and the right to have our peace not disturbed.
