Cat food is on my list of errands. We were due for the usual pickup, but think I’ll get double while there. That will last about 5 weeks. Got Leo’s thyroid pill refill a little over a week ago, so we are good on that for about another month.

Before WWII, kibble wasn't a thing. (My naturopath vet told me this.) She says back before 50 years ago, dogs ate what people ate. She recommends a raw diet (raw beef, chicken etc., bones included), supplemented with fruits and vegetables, particularly sweet potato. Personally I'm too lazy to cook for myself, so up to this week, I've opted for those frozen formulas they have all ground up. (Really noticed a difference in the amount and smell of my dog's poop --much less volume and significantly less stinky. Sorry for the TMI, but with an 80lb dog, this is welcome news in my household.)

I bring all this up because while it's convenient to buy dog food, if you do run out, there are probably lots of stapes in your pantry that you can feed your dog. That includes rice, oats, raw meat and veggies and more. Look it up! Not only *can* you do this, your furry friend (and your nose) may actually end up better off.

I imagine the situation is similar for cats, but haven't researched because our kitty passed a few months ago.

Her current food, supplements, and meds are all shipped to me from three different sources.

I supplement her regular diet with boiled chicken and rice, which I can probably do for at least a month with chicken breasts in the freezer and a supply of rice.

I have had very good results using chewy.com if anyone is concerned about having to go out to get pet food.

The only thing I didn't like about it was one of the bags of food was open and spilled in the box. I prefer to buy at my local mom and pop to support the business, but I wanted to get set up at Chewy just in case.
