There's no way an airplane could be used for that purpose - there are dozens or hundreds of buildings that are not being used, like schools and shopping malls, that could be repurposed. Definitely not airplanes.

I wondered WHY didn't they just keep the people on the planes after they landed, and then unload the planes one at a time? It would have made SO much more sense to temporarily quarantine them in their planes for a while instead of massing them together like they did.
