A set of three fine reels:

For many folks, St Patrick Day will be wisely spent a bit differently this year. To help pass the time, here's a set of reels recorded many years ago in a session at Matt Molloys Pub in Westport, Co. Mayo.

The first, Tommy Coen's reel, is an absolute favourite of mine. The second, The Otter's Holt or Pol An Madra Uisce (The Water Dog's Hole), I first heard on a Bothy Band album from the mid 1970's titled "Out of the Wind and Into the Sun". This tune is the last of a set called Music in the Glen found thereon. Matt Molloy himself was a member of that groundbreaking band. The last reel is a common session tune known as McFadden's Handsome Daughter and played just about everywhere. I'm not sure, but it may have found its way into the tradition by the 1920's-30's recordings of Co. Sligo fiddler Michael Coleman.
