Bonito - dried out over a lengthy period to almost brick like hardness. Shaved into chips and flakes for flavoring.

The cats certainly seemed to like it though I doubt they appreciated how much effort their human put into it. But I bet he was doing it just because he loves to cook and he loves his cats.
