Strange times: Yesterday I traded two cans of kidney beans and an N95 mask

for a red bell pepper (for my dog) and a pair of gloves.

I haven't been grocery shopping in three weeks, and there's no problem except my dog and I love to cut up peppers. My dog is so accustomed to peppers with his dinner that he gets a little depressed when he doesn't get them, and last Friday we ran out.

My mother braved the supermarket on Sunday but arrived at 8:00 AM, two hours after the market opened, and it was pretty well cleaned out by then. (That's why I'm putting off going to the store--I can't stand the idea of fighting for groceries.) But she couldn't find canned goods, especially canned beans. I just happen to have a lot of canned kidney beans put aside for a situation like this, so I gave her two cans. I didn't ask for anything or expect anything in return, but she knew my dog LOVES red peppers and that we were out, so she gave me a red pepper she had salvaged from her shopping trip. The gloves, too, were totally unexpected.

(She lives about a mile away. I was going to drive the beans over but my car battery was dead, so she came by. We maintained social distancing.)

The red pepper will last him two days. I cut half for him last night and will give him the second half tonight.

My dog was SO HAPPY to see that red bell pepper. He has been a little depressed lately, but when I showed him this single red bell pepper in a bag, he jumped up and down.

It made me so happy to see him happy.

That is what my Vet recommends instead of chew bones. Carrots, broccoli etc. No weight gain. Lochloosa Mar 2020 #2

When I'm chopping veggies, they stand around waiting. Mine love zucchini, summer squash, and lettuce. I always imagined that peppers would upset their stomachs but I'll give it a try.

while the other one would pick them out of a bowl of soup and line them up on the floor.

I’ve got a doggo who will stare at the fridge hoping for broccoli or an ice cube. The thought of your friend jumping up and down for a red pepper is priceless.

You’re making me hungry. Two of my favorite things.

I’ve got two red bells in the fridge. I think I’ll go roast one up for a white bean and roasted red pepper salad.

Best to you, mom and doggie!
