The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsCan anyone tell if the US Mail is moving slower recently?
Ten days ago, I mailed a letter with a large-$ check to a mutual fund company. As of yesterday, the money had not shown up in my fund account, nor has the check cleared my bank. I know that federal rules don't allow a mutual fund to sit on a check--it has to be processed at least by the business day after it is received. (maybe that rule has been waived due to virus? IDK) That only leaves the possibility that it's delayed in the mail. Any DU thoughts?

(46,025 posts)My passport was delivered to the wrong address. A police officer brought it to me yesterday. I don't know why the guy who received it didn't put it in my mailbox, but at least he got the police to bring it to me.

(15,758 posts)Perhaps they called the police and put it on the porch for the police to pick up. Remember were in a whole new world.

(46,025 posts)Our hands didn't touch to exchange the passport. Then I brought it in the house, swabbed it with bleach/soap solution, and washed my hands. The pages are a bit warped but otherwise okay.
I hope he didn't catch anything from it.

(25,183 posts)that your neighbor who got the passport in the mail was elderly, and did not want to be involved in returning it to you. Also, a cop would probably be better equipped to know that the passport was being delivered to the person who it belonged to, at least in the mind of the person who accidentally received the document.

Did you send it first class only? No certified or tracking?

(1,660 posts)I work for a business who uses a lot of BRE and our BRE mail is typically delayed 2 days or more, depending on the volume of mail.
At least, that is the story we received from our mail carrier.

I texted him a message on the actual day, 3/22, which showed up on his phone on 3/25. WTH?

(24,365 posts)And there could be any number of reasons for your experience, including as someone else suggested, your fund company has people working from home. Their mailroom should still be operational, but if they are understaffed it could and probably does slow everything down.
The mail is still moving, however. Im home today because there are no trips available to me that I want to take. They called me this morning and offered one that requires entering 3 different sorting centers but I turned it down.
I also have COPD and for the first time in 2 years, I have an episode slowly manifesting itself.
So...yeah, Im short of breath but no fever.
Anyway, have patience. Your letter moved, of that Im sure.
And yes, Im worried, but this isnt unexpected even though I did what I could to mitigate exposure
