"The best figure skate ever!" Hope and Legacy and Yuzuru Hanyu

Today, April 1st, is the third anniversary of the best figure skate in FS history. Yuzuru Hanyu (two-time Olympic gold medallist, only men's figure skater to achieve the superslam of winning all high-level international competitions as both junior and senior, all-around GOAT) hadn't had a good short program in the World Championships of 2017 in Helsinki. So he went on the ice and delivered the most incredible performance. It is epic, and it won him a gold - and a world record.

Any sufficiently advanced performance is indistinguishable from magic. Thanks for sharing.

And to think, he has had several of these otherwordly performances. I hope to get to see him live next year at the Worlds in Stockholm.

They buy the rights when they buy speed skating rights (they're bundled) and since they pay so much, the ISU bend over backwards to accomodate them - including in judging. I have my vpn set to countries that haven't bought the airing rights from ISU, but they keep scrubbing youtube even of clips from old competitions.
