He was one of the founding fathers of glam rock in the early '70s and served as an inspiration to many others.
He was tragically killed in a car wreck at the age of 29, when his girlfriend crashed his Mini into a tree. He was always terrified of driving and avoided it whenever he could.
That Billy Elliot soundtrack is great, and it has a lot of his biggest hits.
