The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsJust now, I gave myself my first haircut ever
and it doesn't look ridiculous! There is not much that can be positive about these terrible times. This is perhaps one of them.
God bless us all, and let that fat mofo idiot in our White House and his many Rus-publican bootlickers like McConnell and Graham be trounced on November 3.
For every haircut I do myself, that money that I save is going to Biden and the D's towards that end!

I'm going to have to look into it. The 'do is crazy out of control.

I gave myself a haircut kit from Amazon for my birthday last month, and tried to get my kids to do it. They wouldn't, and I have several videoconferences tomorrow, so I did it myself.
I pay $20 each time for a simple haircut, and this kit cost around $28. I figure I will use it at least one more time during the California lockdown (assuming I live through all this).

What's wrong with using clippers?

(4,646 posts)It's thin and gray on top, but he's got a silly short ponytail left over from his hippie days. I resisted the urge to cut it off. The old geezer would have been pretty mad.
I agree with you -- the money saved can go to helping us win.

(13,821 posts)Besides saving money I can cut it when ever I want, no appointment necessary!!
I have a friend who likes to go to the barber. It's a comradely thing for him... He kinda misses it..

I've been paying $70 for haircuts every few months. That's over now!

(50,774 posts)I cut the ponytail about 10 inches from my forehead.
I found that it did a good job on the layers except the longest layer was a little too long.
So I did a blunt cut on that longest layer using this method:
https://m.
The longest layer is now about 2 inches below my shoulder.
Then I cut the shortest layer around my face like this:
https://m.
I did this in two sections, one to each side because my part is not as far to one side as hers. I also did more of an angle than she did.
The only thing I would change would be to point cut (demonstrated in two of the videos) a little more because at first the layers were a bit choppy, though that disappeared entirely after I washed it and blew it out.
Use very sharp scissors. (My sharp scissors are fabric scissors, but they worked fine.)
Good luck, and tell me how it comes out!

(26,093 posts)Took me a long time to realize that point cutting can make such a big difference, especially with thin hair.

(47,489 posts)I'm an every-three-weeks buzzcut guy. My regular haircut was supposed to happen the weekend of March 14th and 15th, but then the world went to hell.
Now my hair is over an inch long and I look like a goddam white-haired monchichi.
Next step is looking like a q-tip, and I ain't havin' that.
Only decision left is who does the deed. My SIL is all in, but she's got a weird glint in her eye...makes me nervous.
(I like your idea about donating the money saved. )
