Deer in the yard (no picture)

Last night, just before dusk, the dogs got excited and there in the back field were 4 deer...2 moms and 2 babies. We watched as they meandered their way to the back yard, stopping along the way to look up at us. Their color has changed from gray to brown - a certain sign of Spring. They grazed their way to within an easy stone's throw of the deck and then slowly made their way to the raised garden and then into the woods. This took about 45 minutes. The pups were pissed that I wouldn't let them out to play. These beautiful animals were calm and graceful as if they knew Mother Nature was fully in change, not us.

We thought they were beautiful.

Now when I see them, I say, "Giant rats."

The problem is that we need predators other than cars and those in the brief hunting season.

I'm for Pumas and Wolves, but that will never happen in New Jersey.

But, in my yard, if I see the deer coming too close, it’s time to get a flea treatment for my dogs. I think the deer may bring the fleas to my yard.

Usually happens for us in the fall. I think they spend the winter in the thicket behind my yard.

Sounds like the title of a country song, then follow the prints to another plant lost. Fence went up this year. Those awfully cute little bunnies are worse...they are mean and I mean...mean. I might try to train the bunnies to keep out the deer dinner crowd.

We will not bend nature’s will...we have to learn to live together. I grow mostly medicinal herbs. Tried to warn the deer about comfrey...didn’t listen...ate about three pounds...musta had some awful gas for a few days.
