I decided to really go for it and get like $50-60 of meat and fill my freezer, just n case.
It's just me and teen boy (who eats like there's no tomorrow, but usually likes just grazing...)
So this way I have a couple weeks or more meat in the freezer for bigger meals, stew, raco filling, etc...
Trying to be smart. I had to go out too much these past few weeks cuz I was shopping on a few bucks per time (no real savings)...now that I can, I am trying to stock up and stay home for reals!
Be safe!

(38,187 posts)to turn the power back on. I had not planned on raiding my canned goods until May 1st, to try to make things last long. I had to do a grocery pickup order this morning to try to replace some of the things that went back while the power was out so long. I one piece of meat I got will get cooked right away. It's a roast, so it will last a couple of meals and I won't have to worry about it going bad next time we have severe storms. We have those a lot in early spring. So, it's good the stimulus check happened. Otherwise, I'd be in bad trouble. I need to go pick up the stuff tomorrow evening. I had to wait to even try it until the weather said several days without heavy thunderstorms, because I just don't trust refrigeration as a reliable method with crap Duke Energy making me pay for their coal ash spill AND taking their own damn sweet time to turn the power back on in rural areas.
They once outright told me they go by population to turn the power back on. So, ALL of the bigger cities in NC had to have their power back on before they even would think about this impoverished rural areas like this shithole where I live that openly does not matter. That was during Hurricane Florence. My aunt wasn't able to come back home for five days because of that. Now, she is dead. It was the beginning of her ending up dying, all because of that stupid Hurricane and that quack Christian Scientist doctor who later took her off all of her medicines for her heart and blood pressure. He made her start dying even faster after doing that. I will always hate that hurricane and that doctor for how things turned out. I still think my aunt would still be here to help me figure out how to negotiate this apocalypse, or at least be a witness to what finally killed me during it (I'm surrounded by Trump gun nuts, with one that told me they are practicing for open season on gay people like me), if it wasn't for talking her into evacuating for that storm.
I cannot wait to go get the groceries, because other than using a couple of my canned goods, I have been eating hand to mouth literally. I have a feeling half of what I ordered will not be there by the time they tell me it is ready. I had to keep going back and taking items off the list because they kept saying they did not have one of those in stock when I clicked the place order button.
They didn't have my brand of hash. If anyone had told me back in December, I would eat that can of hash with no loaf bread to make a sandwich out of it and I would eat that entire can by itself and I would ENJOY that can of hash like it was a damn fine feast, I would have laughed at them. Now, I know hash right out of the can (warmed up, of course) can be the best tasting and most satisfying meal imaginable. The local Food Lion I usually go to has had so little food left in it that I have avoided making a grocery trip for over 2 weeks now. So, I am having to use the only other option where I live, Walmart. I was avoiding that like the plague, right by itself. I will see what the other brand of hash tastes like and if Walmart ends up giving me what I paid for or tells me they didn't have most of it. I won't know until tomorrow night. I'm so freaking hungry.

(33,643 posts)You're eating cans of hash as entire meals? That is pretty rough.
Food-wise, stores around here in AZ are fully stocked apart from a few things being a little low like rice, pasta, and canned soup (still a good amount but maybe not the most desirable ones).
I feel like we should organize a Jamastiene food drive here ...
