1. In Belgium they are begging people to eat as many potatoes as possible.

The whole supply chain thing has been crazy. It's literally feast or famine.

5. Cheesy eggs with hashbrowns is almost all I have an appetite for, right now

I'm a bit of a weirdo because any kind of stress pretty much kills my appetite. I can make a really tasty meal, eat a couple of fork fulls and then I'm done. I'm now 'forcing' myself to eat twice a day, and 99.999% of the time, both meals involve potatoes.

3. I haven't been to Aldis in a few months. You've tempted me to return.

Maybe next week. It's raining lightly today and the forecast for tomorrow predicts 5 inches of the wet stuff.

I think I'll stay home and cuddle the dog. We shared french fries with burgers the past two days while grocery shopping.

Of course, now I want hash browns. Thanks a lot.

Not a whole lot, though. Perfect for the gardens. As soon as things dry out, I'll be back in the veg garden, getting it ready for planting.

Love the ones @aldi too. I keep some in my garage fridge, esp'ly for when the kids are home. Theres only 1 aldi here in austin area but its worth the drive for the delicious coffee & tea, european chocolate & snacks, amongst other great finds.

6. Aldi is my #1 place for grocery shopping

And the Tuesday/Thursday 'vulnerable shoppers hour' is great. I get there at 8:30 and can get my shopping done in less than 20 minutes and be back home in less than 30. They really are looking out for their customers. And they aren't jacking up prices. In fact, I've seen a whole lot of things on which they've lowered prices. Winking Owl wine is still $2.49 a bottle!

The only thing I noticed they were out of, today, was chicken. I did get a really good buy on ground beef that I'm going to divide into 1/2 lb packets and freeze.

location also ran out. Whoa $2.49 for a bottle of wine is fabulous. Is it any good? The hubby has had hit or miss with wines from Aldi so we usually get decent bottles @HEB and typically the brands he likes such as Coppolla, Menage a Trois or Yellow Tail.

Right now any little thing that makes us temporarily forget about covid or the constant insanity of the current state of affairs is all good. I just try to take it day by day and enjoy living in the moment. This weekend we're road-tripping to see Hill Country wildflowers blooming in all their glory. It's little things like this that keep me motivated .

BTW those Jaffe cake cookies from Aldi are amazing if you haven't tried them!

14. I really like their 'house' wine - kind of like Charles Shaw at Trader Joe's

It's certainly not 'plonk'. I especially like the Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. A friend of mine, from Northern California and who is kind of a wine snob, was pleasantly surprised when she tried them. And I LOVE Yellow Tail.

I will definitely try those Jaffa Cakes. I forgot to buy mints and water, today, so I'll be heading back there on Tuesday.

8. Ha I'm the same way with white rice.

Our food pantry is running out of rice. Our normal supplier hasn't got any available. I went in Winn Dixie the other day to ask the Manager (telling him it was for a food pantry) if I could bulk order rice. He said no, they aren't taking any special orders right now. But told me I could take all I wanted from the shelves. I told him I would probably clean him out. He said that was OK!

Got about 200 1 lb bags. Not a lot considering the need, but was thrilled!! Another purchaser tried ordering through Costco and they wouldn't/couldn't do it.

I also checked amazon. What they (the suppliers) are charging, up to $3 for a 1 lb bag was ridiculous. At W/D I paid $.88 to $1.09.

Happy camper.

9. I picked up a 20 lb bag of Basmati Rice, just before the stay at home order started

That should last me for a while but if I can buy another, I probably will.

Absolutely no white rice at all on the shelves at the store yesterday morning. I have to fix it for my elderly dog as part of her special diet. Fortunately, I have enough to last until June, but I'm going to hope to find it the next time I go and not have to go to multiple stores!

11. They did have the large size bags, 10 & 20 lbs bags. But we would have to repackage them.

So I didn't not take the large sizes. Didn't have a lot, but at least there was some.

13. There's plenty of rice @asian market if you're close to one. I normally get the 25lb bag.

My favorite brand is the jasmine rice with the deer on the bag:

https://www.wynmarket.com/deer-super-premium-jasmine-rice-50lbs-gao-hieu-nang-huong-cho-dao/

This link has the 50lb bag but the 25lb bag is usually about $19-$23 depending on the store. Whenever there's a sale i pick up a couple.
