A HERETIC I AM

If you like animals and cattle, I found this cool channel of a Scotsman who trims cow hooves!

Proving that there is a video for just about every interest on YouTube!

I've always had an affection for cows and horses (Like most little boys I suppose, I wanted to be a Cowboy for a time when I was little!) and I stumbled across this channel a couple days ago. This young man provides hoof care and trimming services to dairy farms in Scotland, and he clearly has a great love for his charges.

WARNING! Some of the videos are graphic, in that he deals with live animals that are walking around with malady's of the foot; infections, abscesses and the like, so there are scenes that will make the squeamish uncomfortable.

But the stories portrayed are fascinating for the animal lover and those of you concerned with animal welfare, and he does seem to have the animals well being very close at heart. It is interesting to see someone skilled in his craft who takes such good care of living creatures.

(EDITED to add; He also shows many lovely scenes of the Scottish countryside, which makes this channel even more charming.)

His channel;
The Hoof GP

An example;

This one is pretty graphic, but shows the kind of work he does start to finish, with an animal suffering from a nasty abscess that he is able to rehabilitate. Again, WARNING! This is kind of gross, so if you have no familiarity with heavy livestock, this might be disturbing, but it is is at the same time, heartwarming, to see the care this man takes in helping this animal with it's discomfort;

appears to be about the cow's hoof. I've actually been present for procedures such as this done on horses. I find it fascinating and impels me to become better educated on this treatment regimen. Thanks for posting.

it is interesting. I always wondered how Secretariat died due to founder. Well, he was put to sleep due to the pain. I never understood how it was allowed to get that far. I mean, of all horses.

Yeah, some of us are stilled pissed. Maybe, I’ll get it now.

the liver and kidneys during a life threatening episode the prescriptive pain killers will exacerbate the downward cycle of ill health. Additionally, when a horse founders, develops abscesses, etc., it is almost 100% of the time due to poor farrier work. With race horses they like to leave the toes long, thinking that long toes grab more earth and allow the horse to run faster. Science does not prove that theory.
