Ours is but a brief scene in the larger drama, and the only thing that truly matters in the end is if your line or scene is a benefit to others or a harm. You "win" only by having a larger net positive impact on the species. Toys, cars, houses, possessions, trophies? All are irrelevant in the end.

When the ride is over, we all must get off, but the others get to keep going. Leaving a light in the darkness for them to follow is the highest level of 'success' attainable. Beyond that? It is elephants, all the way down.
