Uh, what the hell did I just drink?

On the left is a sealed bottle of clear spring water. On the right is the same type of spring water in which I drank 3/4 of the bottle until I noticed what the remaining water looked like.

What is that shit? Am I gonna die?

for a couple of minutes before I swallow it, especially if I get distracted. But I never backwash back into a bottle or cup, to my knowledge.

Or is it merely the psychological effect of seeing the murkiness of the water?

Does it have a smell? Was it a new bottle, just opened or was it an old bottle that you refilled from the tap? If it was tap water, it could be micro bubbles with calcium from the pipes. Check your tap to find out.

Otherwise, just drink some clean water and flush your system.

working with paint and various chemicals today, so when I hold the bottle up to my nose, that is all I can smell.

I was working outside with the paint, etc. but this bottle remained upstairs in my office the entire time, so I don't see how I could have contaminated it.

It was a brand new bottle of store bought spring water, no tap water from my home was involved.

Say from your lips? Even a tiny drop could discolor the whole bottle.

I know when I paint, I get droplets all over myself. I have to make sure to use water soluble paints because I am clumsy that way.

Sometimes the chemicals and paint smells can overwhelm us and we may miss a dab of paint on our face or hands.

on the bottle label.

I worked in a similar industry for quite a while. This looks like the backwash that takes place after a plant shutdown for cleaning. Their stainless steel pipes are flushed with cleansers after any downtime to eliminate any possible contamination, and fresh water should run through for a specified period to be sure all the cleansers are removed. It looks like they may have started to bottle this batch before the final flush was complete.

Save what you have on hand and call them. It's possible the company will send a rep to your home to collect it for testing. First, however, freeze a sample to keep for your back-up in case you need to explore this further. Don't be overly generous with the information you provide them about your painting chores for the day b/c that gives them an "out". Let them find what they find first. A reputable bottler should report their findings back to you once they have investigated. Their bottler will have a Quality Control Lab on premises. If they find something is out of line, they may well make you a nice offer to mitigate your complaint...free water coupons for X period of time, etc.

The amount you ingested is probably too little to be of concern, but it pays to be safe. If nothing more, the company will need to review their flushing procedures. That's why they want to be called.

ETA: I just noticed this looks like a store brand. Definitely call W's...they'll follow the procedure I outlined. You may find this article of interest! https://progressivegrocer.com/wegmans-branded-spring-water-back-stores

Very very good information that I did not know. I will hang on to this bottle, but I'm pretty sure I figured out what happened. Please see my final post in this thread. Thanks again.

I was at my dad’s house and there was a full water bottle with a cap on the counter near some food - just like in the OPs image. It looked like the label had been peeled off. I took three swigs since I had just entered from outside.

Turned out it was home made window cleaner someone had given him. There was a tiny sticker on the back that listed ingredients water, dish detergent, ammonia...

Poison control assured me that the ammonia was probably diluted enough to not harm me if I was able to swallow three times before I realized. I suffered no ill effects, but it’s a lesson not to store chemicals in containers usually made for potable liquid as a rule.

I take a lot of pills every day. A LOT.

I take the pills in two batches, once before noon, once in the evening. The first batch is a big batch. It contains anywhere from 16 to 18 pills (depending on the day of the week), which I take in one gulp. I trained myself how to do this, because when I try to take them a few at a time, I end up fumbling them, dropping them on the floor, etc. The pills range in size from relatively small, to "horse pill" size. Some are capsules, some are tablets, many of them are white.

Perhaps two times in my life, I've had a tablet stuck somewhere in my mouth after I gulped down the 16-18 pills. Whenever this happens, it takes me a couple of seconds to realize it's still in my mouth because it lodged in a weird place, like way back between my cheek and a wisdom tooth.

It hardly ever happens, but what probably happened with this cloudy water was that I washed my pills down in a big gulp, thinking they all went down the hatch, and then back washed an un-swallowed white tablet back into the bottle somehow.

The reason I am thinking this is because I am very picky about my food and drink, and I'm 99.9% sure I would have noticed that the water was cloudy before I opened the bottle.

Thanks to everyone who gave advice.

But would an errant pill mix that quickly and completely? Seems there'd be a disintegrating pill, or at least residue, visible.

In any event, the good news is that you're still posting on DU and not curled up in a ball in the corner. There's hope!

Put them in your palm.

Throw them in your mouth like a monkey eating popcorn. With some practice, you'll get them all in at once, every time.

Take a big swig of water. Not enough to drown you or anything, but enough to float that big wad of pills in your mouth in the water in such a way that no pill is touching anything in your mouth. They all kind of float up as one unit. Then just gulp them down smoothly. You won't even feel them go down.

One of my docs said not to do this, but didn't give a reason. So I still do it. Never got one stuck in my throat or anything like that.

The upside is that this is the one point in my day where I feel triumphant and do a pretend mic drop.

PPS...on second thought, do not do this please. This is not medical advice, and people who are not as fucked in the head as I am would probably choke or something.
