I saved a baby raccoon tonight

I was walking and saw a little raccoon. It had its head stuck in a plastic jar and was wondering around. So I snuck up quietly and grabbed the jar. It pulled back to get away and the jar popped off! Raccoon heads are much smaller than they seem with all that fur. It was cute.

10. a baby raccoon cries out like a human baby

A few years ago we had a raccoon family here in Suburban Boston. One youngster got up in our walnut tree and scared. I never heard anything like it. It sounded just like a human baby. Loud enough to get neighbors going out to their patios to see what was happening. The cries went on for more than an hour, until its mom did something.

I love stories like yours. A friend of mine was telling me how she saved an orphaned baby fox. He still comes back for dog food!

Looked in and saw a young possum trying to climb out.

I picked up the trash can and dumped it out and he scurried away.

Then I had to pick up a bunch of sticky garbage.

I'm rather fond of baby possums. We have two who come every night for the watering station I set out for the backyard wildlife.

I'm mulling over feeding them every so often. I don't want them to rely on humans for food but they're painfully thin

In the back of my apt. She was so good and well behaved that she would sit on my lap at night as we watched the the babies lick from the water I put out for them only a few feet away from us. The possums were only a few weeks old and eventually moved on.

The lid was off, which was odd but I didn't think much of it. It was a patio use can and it was possible my hubby had just neglected to put it back on. When I looked inside there was a baby possum curled up and sleeping. It looked like a little cinnamon bun all coiled up. I could see where it had scratched the sides in its attempts to escape. My heart broke for it!

Since I'm a coward, my best plan was to lay the can on its side slowly and let it escape on its own. It was so sleepy and confused it took it a few moments to process it's freedom. Then it wandered off sniffing the ground as it left. It could have been in there for as much as two days, the poor thing!
