Faithful 8,400-year-old dog found buried with his master in Sweden
.... An animal osteologist who completed a preliminary exam of the bones said the dogs breed has long since vanished but could be compared to a powerful greyhound.
The faithful pooch was buried with its master as part of his grave goods an ancient tradition where the dead were buried with treasured objects. ....
The artifacts were so well preserved because many centuries ago, a sudden and violent increase of the sea level caused the once-coastal site to be covered with sand and mud, which kept the remains intact, said Carl Persson, the museums project manager.
The findings make modern folks feel even closer to the people who lived here, Persson said in a statement.
A buried dog somehow shows how similar we are over the millennia when it comes to the feelings like grief and loss.

(16,072 posts)1. Doesn't that mean that the killed the dog
so he could be buried with the man?

Slim chance they buried the dog with it's human after it already died at a later date.

(16,072 posts)4. That is really disturbing to me
always has been when I hear of animals and even people who were left as "grave goods".
Grave goods should only include inanimate objects. Poor dog could have had another master and lived out a full life.
yes, inanimate objects, but that was a different type of society.
