Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsJust did an hour-long thanksgiving zoom meeting with my family.
15 people on 8 screens.
From age 89 at the oldest down to a guy who just turned 3.
Surprisingly, it did not suck.
I was dreading it all week, even looking for ways to get out of it. But after an hour and fifteen minutes, I was actually kinda bummed it was over.
Glad I didn't ditch.

Glad your visit went so well!

(16,952 posts)People are taking advantage of technology that has existed for years. It doesnt replace in person but allows folks who wouldnt otherwise be able to participate to join in their fun.

(47,487 posts)People in their 20s have been raised on tech. The people in their 50s and 60s are all working from home and are using or are familiar enough with the tech. The babies (except for the youngest) are all doing distance learning. And the olde guy lives with us so no problem.
All in all, a really good experience.

(28,702 posts)unlike you, i set it up and anticipated it. we were in CA, NC, and CO. After the ZOOM call some of us stayed on and played Jackbox. It made our thanksgiving so much better.

It was wonderful. We avoided politics, as one in-law is a ruby-red republican. The rest of us are true-blue Democrats, with one gray libertarian.
We're already planning a Christmas Zoom!

I hadn't seen any of them in person for over a year. It was nice. I hope to do it regularly.

(1,181 posts)We chat and play the Jackbox games. It's been a nice tradition, and we Skyped this afternoon as well.
Sometimes I have "Zoom fatigue," but in general, I really look forward to it and can be sad any days that we can't meet or one of us is unavailable. The fact that my full family has now made it habit to chat once a week is a pleasant side effect to come out of this whole situation.

(5,808 posts)Eating their Thanksgiving meal. We were in FL, NC and MS. We chit chatted for a little while then we played a Family Trivia game on Kahoot! put together by our daughter-in-law. She sent out questions ahead of time to have material to make the trivia questions. The call lasted almost exactly an hour and was just about the right amount of time. We will definitely have a Christmas Zoom time! It was good to see everyone and have some fun together!
