"Best" and "greatest" are two different things.

I recently got to thinking about "greatest" vs "best"...

This guy is arguably the best guitarist ever, I mean, look at him! But we can debate who's better...his mentor, John Fahey? Andres Segovia? So many choices!



But this guy, this man here, is unquestionably the Greatest Guitarist of all time, full stop, no further discussion, if you disagree - you are simply wrong wrong WRONG.

Maker #2: "I'm the best donut maker in the Country"
Maker #3: "I'm the best donut maker on this block"

One man's opinion is another man's bullshit.

I think the difference between "best" and "greatest" lies, not in degree of virtuosity, but in degree of influence. That said, while Jimi Hendrix may have influenced about every guitarist after 1970-ish, there were a ton of guitarists before then who had developed their styles through different influences, usually Chuck Berry and Buddy Holly.
