Old family photos
I have an album that belonged to my mother's mother. I have a pile of loose photos, which I am in the process of identifying. By going through the album, I can see if any of the loose pictures look like any of the ones in the album. I had some luck, but even more fun was seeing some Model A's or Model T's, identifying the city hosting a parade, my grandmother sitting next to a baseball player (you can't read the shirt, but there is a clear view of his face) and a bi-plane. I will be doing further detective work for sure. There is some kind of encampment with soldiers, tents and horses. I learned last year that there was a Camp Cleveland in the Tremont area of Cleveland. There are teen girls at Camp Lake Breeze, which I learned was a place on the west side of Cleveland. All in all, the pictures are a lot of fun.
I realized in one picture that a man was mocking Hitler. The man is getting ready to get on a boat. He has one hand lying flat just under his nose, indicating the mustache and is saluting with the other. I remember doing that when I was a kid, and it was always meant as ridicule of Hitler.
The album isn't really an album. My grandmother used a technical catalog and glued the pictures on the pages over printed descriptions and schematics of equipment. I am going to get the pictures off the pages, because the book is damaged. I'll remount them in a photo album and id as many of the people as I can.
