The promised 'help' never materialized - no doubt higher priority things occurred, or I've been forgotten. Again. And it's GOT TO GET DONE, NOW!!!! (Sorry, did I yell?? )
Oh well. Tomorrow I am going to buy one of those special kind of wrenches for removing oil filters. I've already got the filter and the oil and I located the place from where you drain the oil. I figure the worst part will be removing the filter.
Maybe I can find a YouTube video to study, before hand. Better yet, maybe I can risk one more mow, before changing the oil. You know, just in case I break something.

(26,259 posts)Fortunately, this MUCH cooler weather has probably slowed down the growth. Hopefully, anyway.

(26,259 posts)I'm not particularly strong so I hope the filter isn't on there extra tight. And I have a very unique talent for self injury, when I try to work on machinery. I once dropped a roto tiller on my head.

(24,278 posts)you will have to just stab it right through the middle with a latge screwdriver, then turn it. You will leak some oil and it will be messy, but you will be able to remove it.

(32,669 posts)not to put the new one on so tight.

(23,628 posts)So if you YouTube it include make and model
When I bought mine used, the guy was nice enough to include a 1 tube of flexi plastic to slide over the oil drain and direct it AWAY from the engine into receptacle... you may need similar
Taking off/ putting on filter is the trickiest ... dont overtighten and observe it for leaks periodically (tighten more etc)
Good luck

(26,259 posts)I've got a receptacle, all ready for the old oil.
The last person who helped me with this project WAY overfilled the oil. I was mowing, and all of a sudden this MASSIVE POOF OF WHITE SMOKE exploded out of the mower, and it stopped. I had to push it back to the garage. After a little research, I figured out what was wrong. That's when I saw the tube with the little cap, that pulls away from the engine, and I drained away the excess.
He's someone I could likely call and he'd come right over. However, that last experience soured me on his assistance.

left side of the car had lug nuts with reverse threads...)

(26,259 posts)the last guy who helped me, waaaaayyyyy overfilled it. After some panic over WTF was wrong with the mower (LOTS of white smoke) I did a little google and it was suggested to empty out some of the oil. There's a yellow tube that pulls away from the mower. You just pull off the little cap and out it flows.
I've got THAT part pretty well learned. It's really just swapping out the filter that worries me - as in, can I remove it without doing any significant damage to me and/or the mower.

Thank you.
mobeau69
(11,140 posts)that screws into the engine. Youre supposed to be able to unhook it from the side of the block and fish it down through the frame then remove the plug from the end of the hose. Tried for an hour and gave up. Went to dealer and asked WTF. They told me to pump it out. Thats the way they do it. Not that bad once you get a little pump with a hose to reach the bottom of the reservoir.
Farris zero turn with B&S engine.
There is some other half assed engineering on it also that I wont go into.
