(329 posts)We rescued one during a hurricane. She had fallen out of one of our Live Oaks on the side of our yard. Just a wee bit. We quickly learned from some online information how to take care of her. Bottle fed until we could introduce vegetables, etc. When she was old enough we built a little house for her up in the Live Oak limbs and fed her while she got used to her outdoor friends. I fed her for many years and she always came to me for special food like peanuts. Last year we moved to the North Georgia Mountains from FL and I miss her so much. I hope she's okay.

(2,594 posts)And he brought her back after a very wild storm a couple of years ago. I heard a couple of squeeks and thought he was squeeking on one his toys. Came to find out he had picked this tiny baby girl and brought her back safely in his mouth. I realized quickly that he'd found a baby (I wasn't sure it was a squirrel or a rat at that point). But by next morning, I realized it was a tiny squirrel. I looked around online to find a rescue place, and my husband and I drove there the next day to deliver the baby. I adore them - even if they've chewed on our outdoor furniture mattresses and seat covers to glom onto the batting to make nests.

(329 posts)They are little stinkers, but so cute and quite entertaining!

(63,221 posts)I love squirrels! I would always carry nuts in my bag and go to the parks in NY and here in Boston and feed them. They have such interesting little personalities. Some of them are quite bold. They are so fun to watch.

(16,296 posts)Our 3 cats (at one time long ago) always tried to catch them on the lawn, but gave up to the reality of never doing so. One of the 3 used to chase the squirrels up an acorn tree and they would pelt her with nuts until she just resigned herself to leaving in defeat.

(113,255 posts)two huge trees next to the porch. I would not say that the squirrels were spoiled. . They would sit right next to me while I was eating, or having coffee. They got peanuts, but also almonds, pecans, hazelnuts, walnuts and filberts.
When they lost their stash in a fire, they came to me to let me know. Of course, I promptly got more nuts.
Adorable little creatures.

(329 posts)Unfortunately, my neighbor got fed up with them, called them rats and he was going to shoot them. It's hard to keep them away from everyone else's yard.
