(1,406 posts)Many moons ago. I was on my roof putting a chimney cap on. Height was a good 20' above the ground.
As i was working, I heard a faint sound to my left. I looked over and my then 1 yr old son had climbed the ladder and was at the top
rung at the gutter line. I internally freak out. Not wanting to frighten or panic him. I calmly greeted him slowly walked over and got him onto the roof and into my arms. Then I called my wife out who saw the both of us on the roof peak and almost fainted.
Ahh Children, the Life and Death of us all.

(23,213 posts)In my childhood, sister and I put a ladder up to the roof of our barn, and would sit up there and read books in the shade of a big tree. Dog wanted to be with us, so he would climb the ladder, and lay down next to us. To get him down was the problem. I would get started down the ladder, and sister would have to lift the dog onto my shoulder so I could carry him with one hand and climb sown with the other. Ah, the days! I do miss that pooch!

(34,136 posts)There were some tall crepe myrtles they could climb up and leap onto the roof, but they didn't trust trying to jump back so we'd end up with stranded cats. The easiest solution was to leave a ladder leaning up against the roof for them to climb down. They'd even play chase - up the crepe myrtle, jump on the roof, down the ladder, around the house, and repeat. I wish I have video of them doing it!
