Holy shit she got into Berkeley! We bawled our eyes out. Waiting on UCLA, and UCSD. I have no idea how we are paying for this but she is happier than I have seen her in a year and for that I am grateful.

(6,582 posts)After living in CA for 20+ years I like N CA *much* better than S CA.
ChubbyStar
(3,191 posts)We currently live in N CA and I want to keep her as close to home as possible.

(17,862 posts)They are some of the finest public universities in the world. In my state it is fairly easy to get into any program at our flagship universities (with the exception of Nursing).
I wonder if I would have gone to one of the UC schools if I had stayed in California. My family left after 9th grade, and I ultimately ended up going to Purdue (after high school in Mississippi).

(3,191 posts)Purdue is a damn fine University, my sister is a grad.

(36,409 posts)My son was rejected at UCB, but accepted at UCLA. UCB has a 16.3% acceptance rate, UCLA is 12.3%. Go figure
UCI - 26.5%
UCSB - 29.6%
UCD - 38.9%
UCSD - 48.7%
UCSC - 51.3%

(436 posts)I'm happy for her! My wife got her Doctorate at UCLA many years ago and she loved it. Our oldest girl just got married in March in Santa Barbara and we actually drove through the campus one day. My! What a beautiful place! Tell her congrats and good luck!

(14,556 posts)Tell her CONGRATULATIONS!!!GOOD WORK...
Have her check her Major tracks carefully.
I picked UCSB over UCLA, way back when, because they had a Physical Anthropology track all laid
out and in UCLA I would have had to develop one, from within the whole Anthropology Department.
Saved us money for sure.

Oh, it's one of the world's great universities as well.

(31,381 posts)I did both my BS and MPH at UCLA from 1969-1975. It was a marvelous experience. It's a BIG campus and a long walk from one end to the other. I lived on campus in a dorm, then in a sorority house adjacent to campus, and finally off campus in an apartment after I was married.
Wherever she decides to go, she'll get an excellent education at any of the UC schools.
Well done, both of you!
